Poached Pears


1 kg pears, peeled but with the stalks left on
250 ml red wine (Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso – Sara & Sara)
1 cinnamon stick
1 star anice
200 g. brown sugar
1 vanilla-pod
1 clove

Put the sugar and wine in a pan and let it melt on low heat.
Add the cinnamon stick, clove, star anice, vanilla-pod, pears and enough water to cover the pears.
Cover and bring to boil on low heat. Reduce the heat to a gentle simmer for approx. 2 1/2 hours until the pears are red and soft.
